Psalm 145:13
What kind of king are we really following? Abimelech, son of Gideon, wasn’t called by God—he clawed his way to power. His ambition led to the slaughter of his brothers and the creation of a kingdom built on fear, not faith. In Jotham’s parable, the trees seek a king and settle for a thornbush—an image of what happens when we choose leaders based on appearance, not character. In our lives today, we face the same temptation: to follow what seems impressive, shiny, or strong, while ignoring what’s rooted in truth. Are we letting pride, popularity, or convenience rule our decisions? God’s kingdom is not like the world’s. It is built on righteousness, peace, and humility. If we want true leadership in our lives, we must crown Jesus, not ambition, as King.
